Worked here as an RN and the working conditions for nurses and recovery specialists that actually do their jobs was really bad and the management are distasteful people that spend more time/energy doing BS then actual work that would be useful.
The facility is not well maintained and system is extremely inefficient. General staff are rude and ignorant and often spread rumors about patients or tease them. It's the least professional place I've worked.
We did very little help to people in need. Staff are so often overwhelmed and under trained that patient care suffers significantly.
Doctors often do the least amount possible and keep patients there as long as their insurance will pay.
Rockford's group therapy sessions usually consists of an untrained person going on google and printing up a lesson about coping skills right before therapy time, then winging it in front of a group of patients.
The food is gross and a lot of patients don't eat or only eat junk food/candy from the vending machines or that their families brought in.
All the pt history is totally disorganized and difficult to access.
Rockford is owned by UHS, a corporation that owns over 400 US based psychiatric hospitals. Like a typical corporation they try to make the most money while spending the least. This corporate mindset creates demeaning, tedious, repetitive and disheartening work that makes you want to check in as a patient! It really seems to me like it's a major scam on the government and insurance providers. The people at the top are making ridiculous money while the people at the bottom who actually care and doing all the work are barely scraping by and wasting their lives away for this terrible organization.
The amount of money they charge is crazy! They'll accept patients when there are no beds and no staff to care for them, as long as they can pay they'll stay. All this while not providing staff with basic functioning equipment to do their jobs.
It's supposed to be 4:1 nurse to pt ratio however there have been cases where i've been working with more than 20 patients and just one nurse. I tell management and supervisors and nothing changes. Supervisors are unhelpful and rude most of the time. O and no breaks unless you're on night shift or willing to leave and let work pile up while you're gone.
There is no security. If there is a situation with an aggressive person you're on your own. They put you through a class to handle these situations, but it's a total joke and just designed so the company doesn't assume any liability if someone gets hurt.
Many nurses quit shortly after being hired or drop their hours to PRN because it's so bad.
If I were a nurse going into it now with a better understanding of the system, I would only do the minimum for a PRN, they'll tell you it's 9shifts/month but it's actually 5/month (with a slight decrease in pay). You should negotiate this with HR after your hire.
Then you can pick up extra shifts anytime because they're always short-staffed and they will give you incentive when you do, extra 10 dollars/hr for RNs. You can still get benefits also as PRN if you average 36hr/week.
So if you go into it with the mindset that you're just there get paid, you can work the system and make a good amount of money, but be prepared for lots of BS and really bad management! You need to stand up for yourself, otherwise they will constantly put you in bad scenarios with no help/training. If management asks you for a favor, you can say no, they won't do you any favors.
It really doesn't appear that this place will get better anytime soon. They really need to clean house and revamp the whole system to make it modern, efficient and provide good care. But they won't. All they care about is making money in the short term and thinking of the long term repercussions makes me feel ill.
Really hope this review is helpful to somebody thinking about working here!!
