I was at LRA for 7 months a decade ago as a teen. Some things were helpful, particularly just being away from home. That said, a lot went wrong, my first therapist had a breakdown and left, the staff let the LDS kids make fun of me and the other Jewish kids and did nothing when slurs were used in front of them. They also had a policy of bribing the kids to give "positive" tours to prospective parents despite our disdain for the facility while there. I also looked over the staff and was disappointed they have retained the incompetent principal and let go of the two teachers who taught me algebra and really worked with me. The last thing of note is they used force very aggressively while I was there, though I believe that was more on two particular counselors who do not appear to still be working there. This place should be something along the lines of a last resort, if your child is struggling, I would recommend a normal boarding school as half of the programs success comes from getting away from tough family/living situations and the maturity that comes from living with one's peers 24/7. I tell people it was good for me in retrospect because it was, but I don't believe LRA actually had anything in particular that other schools or facilities might not offer. The kicker for me was that my personal therapist who was supposed to be my first line of support refused to act when I went to him for help in regards to the faith based discrimination. I could go on but I don't want to overwork the poor clerk they will send to respond. Best of luck finding the support you need.
