This is quite possibly the best kept secret related to art in the entire Bay Area. A unique, tucked away location underneath the bay bridge, this is actually the largest exhibition space for photography in the entire world. Whodda thunk? A small nonprofit runs the space and limits the shows to generally only per calendar year. The work is hung free from wall text so that you engage with the pieces in a much more direct, personal way. The care they take is evident in all of what they do, from the publication of their exhibit catalog, to the relationship of each room to it's adjacent rooms, to the lighting levels... you won't find another space like this anywhere in the world. Oh, and did I mention that it's FREE? The mind boggles.
