I hate the concept of animals in enclosures, but I felt that the Rome zoo is probably an important education tool for children and adults alike. While we were there, some Italian children were tapping on the glass window of the orangutan enclosure with their toy guns. Shockingly the parents said nothing. Aside from that and the incredibly bored felines, I didn't mind being there. It is a good activity for children.
