Don't waste time reading the 5-star reviews of this place, Crown Plaza has clearly resorted to paid ratings in order to scrape up more business. The place is rated highly in the area, but upon closer inspection of the reviews, the explanations as to why the place is so great are suspiciously vague. The only thing that is 4-5 stars about this place is the price.
This Crowne Plaza near Sugar Land location is 2-stars at best. It checks all the boxes in terms of what a 3-star hotel would have but the quality of the amenities and the service along with the overwhelming rancid smell found all around the hotel that is hard to ignore far outweigh any positives one would say about this hotel. Think of Crown Plaza near Sugar Land as another version of a Motel 6. I never seen a 3-star hotel in this bad of a condition.
What did the place smell like? Basically like dirty mop buckets, and mildew mixed with dust all over the place. It was as if it suffered from a serious flood and never recovered. The room wasn't any better, along with the smell there were stains on the curtains. The shampoo and soap and conditioner also smelled very bad, and the air conditioner was in a state of disrepair.
Also, there are always two police cars out front which makes me feel safe, but it also makes one wonder if this place is prone to criminal activity....
When I did do some research to see how dangerous the area around Crown Plaza Suites near Sugarland actually was. I found that within close proximity to the two most dangerous areas in Houston which was Alief and Sharpstown which are both known for their high robbery, theft, and assault rates.
Despite all of this, the only pros were that the room was big and had it's own living room, I would say the rooms were about 500+ square feet which was nice, there is definitely a lot of potential at this location but appears that the location isn't well managed. There was a fridge in the room and a microwave that were both appeared clean, and two TV's with basic cable.
There are two restaurants/bars on the first floor which are convenient, and two restaurants Olive Garden, and Salt Grass steakhouse adjacent to the building which makes things very convenient. What would be nicer is if there was a grocery store closer to the building and an onsite washer/dryer facility..
Although there is a lot of potential and some positives, I would not stay here again despite the cost savings.
