Absolutely the best Tapas in Denver! My husband and I had recently traveled through Spain and we were introduced to a number of fantastic tapas. Since being home, we have tried the few restaurants in Denver that call themselves "Spanish Tapas" bars and restaurants. The 9th door definitely gets our vote for being the most authentic!
Dishes that we tried...Patatas Bravas. OMG...these were better than Spain. In Spain, the patatas bravas are not very crispy (barley fried) and served with a watery tomato like hot sauce. The chef at the 9th door knows textures as his patatas bravas are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, served with amazing spicy tomato red sauce and garlic aioli. Tortilla espanola...there are many variations but the ones we had at the 9th Door was fun as the dish says on the menu, it is served with seasonal ingredients. So the chef gets to play around and be creative adding veggies to this classic. It was also served warm which is a fun twist! So simple but done extremely well! The tortilla comes with house made harissa paste and garlic aioli. This was quite delightful!
Pan Con Tomate was also outstanding...the toasted ciabatta was perfect and held the tomato without being soggy. It was seasoned perfectly too! The tomato was so ripe and sweet, it was executed perfectly. The Gambas al Ajillo were outstanding. Sweet, tender wild shrimp in a garlic and olive oil sauce. The ciabatta on the side with this sauce is something i could eat everyday! We finished with the signature Paella. The dish did take about 30 minutes to prepare but our server Matt informed us about the time and we had no problem enjoying our tapas and sangria while we waited. Once the Paella arrived, it was loaded with clams, mussels (so plump), shrimp and baby squid. The rice was cooked perfectly and the paella even had the crispy rice bottom that really sets the paella off. We were stuffed afterwards. Matt, our serve was amazing as well. He took the time to explain the dishes and his knowledge about the food was awesome!
BTW, the Sangria was outstanding! Not too sweet and definitely had a good bit of booze but was balanced perfectly. I hate the you get Sangria that is too sweet. The 9th Door was not the case at all!! Great job 9th door!! We are telling all of our friends and we can't to wait to return!!
