I do not mean this to be a scathing review of the Cowbell Brewery. This is only my opinion of my first visit.
First of all I had made a reservation 2 months in advance for myself and my wife to have dinner. Once we got there we were seated at the equivalent of a high top bar table. There are no regular dining tables for a couple to be seated at and they are obviously unwilling to seat 2 people at a table for 4. This is a serious oversight in planning. Couples are going to want to go out for a nice dinner and not have to sit in a bar setting. The tables that are in the dining area look like they were thrown into the room and were left where they landed. It resembles chaos.
Secondly is the food. We started with crab cakes. They were crispy on the outside and were nothing but bland paste on the inside. We also ordered a procuttio and arugala pizza. This had a good flavour but the crust was not cooked in the center. I have a suspicion that their pizza oven was not hot enough or the cook not experienced enough. Regardless the dough was not cooked.
Except for the bar and dining area the rest of the building seemed well thought out. A walk upstairs reveals the inner workings of the brewery and a couple of rooms dedicated to corporate events or meetings. One thing worth mentioning to the management was the gentleman with "Security" written on his shirt who was drinking a beer and quickly hid it behind the upstairs bar when my wife spotted it.
The layout of the bar somewhat perplexed me. All of the taps are against the back wall which seems wrong to me. A bartender is not only there to pour drinks but to engage the customer in polite conversation. This is hard to do with their back turned to the customer.
Cowbell Brewery does produce some good beer but as a restaurant they need to decide if they are a pub or a dining room. The menu leads you to think you to think they are more than just a pub but the quality of the food and the surroundings in the dining area need serious work and improvement.
Overall it is a magnificent building to look at and explore. I do hope there are improvements made in the near future since it has the potential of being a great dining experience. The one thing I won't do again is wait 2 months to be seated at a bar table.
