Like many water treatment companies, they count on consumers not understanding how they work. This system is only a large filter. One where the media cannot be easily or affordably replaced. If you don't want soft water, but a dedicated filter with cartridges that can be easily replaced. If you want a softener, find a company that will see you a Clack WS1 system. Or get a system that does both, softens and filters. They are easily found for about a third the price of what these are sold for.
