Booked a room on Wednesday for Saturday of the same week. Never got asked for an email address, never got a confirmation number over the phone and was rushed off the phone. Figured we'd just go in and it'd be taken care of when we got there on Saturday. Turns out I booked the wrong hotel and my kid wanted to swim at the Holiday Inn in Dimondale. My son and his dad went to check in that Saturday at the Holiday Inn and I realized I had booked the wrong hotel at 145pm on Saturday. I called Comfort Inn to see about cancelling the room. Since I never received a confirmation number or an email with check in time I didn't know about cancellation policy or anything and thought we'd be able to come to an agreement. Samantha, who I'd talked to earlier in the week to book the room, informed me I was an hour before check in and would be charged for the room since cancellation policy was 24 hours. I told her I was never asked for an email or got a confirmation number. She told me she was the front desk manager and it was a part of her job to do that. I told her Well, she forgot to and no one got an email and we did not receive a confirmation number. How can we cancel in time if we don't know the cancellation policy? She told me that 24 hours was standard for hotels. No, some hotels say within a few hours before check in. To which she responded Yes, you're an hour before check in. Again, how do I know that if I never got told when check in was and never received an email?! She told me I'd have to take it up with the general manager and she would be in on Monday. I left a message for the general manager. It's Tuesday after noon and still have not heard back yet. And yes, they charged me for the room!! Ridiculous. I will be calling in a few minutes and getting this taken care of.
