Decided to give TransferWise a try after recently relocating to the UK from the US - I needed to send my partner our rent money from my US Bank account to her UK account. TransferWise said the transaction would take "3-4 hours." After one day had gone by with no movement, I gave them a call to see what's up, and was told it was actually going to be 4 days until it transferred, followed by an email this morning (day 2) letting me know it will now be 6 days. The money has left my US account, so my best guess is that Western Union ponies are currently crossing the continental divide taking it from the west to east coasts? The end result is I had to call my new landlord here explaining why I had to be late with my first rent payment - thanks TransferWise!
Clearly, my experience isn't unique and I regret not reading the reviews on here before using the service. PayPal next month for sure. Maybe next year they'll bring their systems into the current century.

*Update 6/2019* Just thought I'd make a note here that Transferwise's response here is complete nonsense - I've been using PayPal ever since the debacle I wrote about above and guess what? They manage to transfer funds from the US to my UK account in less than an hour! If it's $1,000 or more the transfer is fee-free, $5 if less than that - not a bad deal at all to avoid the scam-like behavior of this company. PayPal it if you can!
