If you dont wan to read all of this, skip to the end for the worst statement by a nurse ever made.
It took 3 hours for them to see me in the emergency room for a suspected ruptured ectopic pregnancy that is life threatening. 3 HOURS just to be seen. They took a urine test and sent me back to the waiting room. When I finally got a room I had to wait another half hour for a very rude nurse by the name of Sharla to see me. She had no idea what a cornua ectopic (my last ectopic) was and mocked me and said I made it up and she had to go look it up. She asked me a few questions and left. She left the door to my room wide open and within a few minutes I could hear her loudly gossiping about my personal situation with my boyfriend (he was abusive and I moved here to get away from him). She said I was irresponsible for leaving when I was pregnant. (I found out after I even moved here.)
It gets worse.
When the doctor finally came into see me (about another 30 minutes), he improperly conducted a quick physical examination where he HARDLY touched me and asked if it hurt. Keep in mind, i could have been having internal bleeding from a ruptured ectopic that requires immediate attention...I refused his order for a pelvic exam and requested an immediate ultrasound and bloodwork (which is the standard procedure for ectopics). He also interrupted me whenever I tried giving him an answer or providing necessary information. Never once did he look in my eye as he was talking to me, nor did he listen to anything I said.
The ultrasonographer was very rude and told me not to ask any questions and the vag. u/s she conducted was very rough and harsh.
When the doctor came back in he stood halfway in the door and gave as little information as possible about my results and then he immediately turned around and walked out as I was trying to ask a question!!
This is the WORST YET:
The nurse, upon giving me my discharge papers, explained to my mother and me why me and every other patient there receives such poor and inadequate treatment. You wont believe what she said:
"When people like you (on state health insurance) come in we only make 10% of what we can charge everybody else for the same procedures. On top of that when you complain we dont get reimbursed at all. If it weren't illegal to turn people away we would not hesitate to do so, because you can only be a humanitarian for so long before you have to pay your bills instead." My thought was, why do you give such terrible treatment and disrespect to people when you say you depend on patient satisfaction to get paid for services? Shouldnt you treat them better so they give that positive review you need? Apparently making 10% of what they can charge everybody else is not worth their time. We are no longer patients, we are CUSTOMERS.
Its about money. If you dont have it they will just let you die because saving you wont pay their bills. But the guy coming in with a broken toe that has good insurance? They will come running to that guy as you lay there bleeding to death.
