I have had two experiences lately with Renown. The first was for out patient cardiac ablation. It started with the RN on duty prepping me for the procedure and tried 4 times to insert the IV. I would think after a third attempt this nurse would have asked for help. I might also mention that she made the procedure quite painful! Now I get blood drawn quite frequently so I know how it should feel. I finally had to ask the nurse to PLEASE get someone to help her, which she did and this person got it into the vein first attempt! Then during the actual procedure, the tube apparently pulled out of my vein which resulted in me feeling what they were doing in my heart. I had told them that my arm hurt but they wouldn't listen. After my visit to Renown, I was sent a questionnaire from that department asking me about the service they provided. I answered very honestly and never heard back from them! I am assuming the questionnaire I replied to ended up in the garbage!
Here is my take: the hospital is understaffed, thereby some of the nursing staff there work 12 hour shifts. The anesthesiologist walked into the sterile cardiac ablation room with his jacket on- so no way was he observing sterile conditions.
I recommend that you become a strong medical advocate for yourself and if unable to do this, make sure a person that cares about you can.
If you are having serious health issues, surgery, make sure your loved one stays overnight if you are unaware of what is going on! That could save your life!
