PATIENTS BEWARE... ask how much cash payment will be compared to your insurance payment when making appointments. When you are going in to have a breast lump evaluated you are focused on the unknowns of the lump, not asking the hospital if cash payment is higher or lower than submitting through insurance. I had a mammogram done at SMH and am paying ~$1000 through insurance compared to ~$400 cash, without insurance. SMH will not tell you this before appointment. When I received high bill, I tried to work with SMH to pay cash payment and they said I am now trapped into insurance payment. SMH has billing advocates, however, these advocates are not advocates for the patient.
