This place honestly isn't as bad as most of the reviews say it is, especially if you get a renovated room. The location can't be beat, the price was reasonable for that location, and the (renovated) rooms were fine. Can't speak for the non-renovated rooms.

Room bathrooms were a little ancient in amenities and no free wi-fi. The lack of free wi-fi was the biggest disappointment. That's almost standard now, and wanting upwards of an extra $10/day for it? No thanks.

Overall, decent hotel, get a renovated room, and you'll be just fine. If you're staying in Manhattan or taking the train in, you won't find a hotel with a better location for the money.
