I attended a public function in the Imperial Ballroom. The space was large so the voices of many people in the room didn't seem loud or drown out your own. The lighting was a very unnatural yellow, the room colors are yellow and orange. The colors of floral arrangements and centerpieces of a wedding reception or other gala would be drowned out by the garish lighting and decor.
