My time at CCNY was one of the worst periods of my life. For STEM students: don't buy the hype! Save yourselves! The emperor has no clothes! In most cases, you will not be able to rely on your professors to help you digest the material and have to spend copious amounts of time studying on your own to make up for the deficit. There is absolutely no sense of community here because it's so cut-throat everyone is just trying to keep their heads above the water. For those wanting to major in engineering (including computer science), weigh your options heavily. It may be worth it to make a sacrifice to go to a better school within the SUNY system. The CUNY system is in serious, serious disarray. There are so, so few resources for students here, especially career-wise. For engineering undergraduates, the only companies that really recruit here are Con Edison and the MTA. For computer science, there exists a student-run career mentoring program called CCNY Code. The school itself provides little to no resources for computer science undergraduates. If you must come here, plan to have to take at least 5~6 years to graduate. Most students do not graduate on time, because, among other reasons, critical classes simply are not offered frequently enough. Begin applying for internships on your very first year so that you can become familiar with the process. Internships are absolutely critical for securing a job once you graduate; do not sleep on this! Lastly, if you wish to do well, look over the syllabus of the courses you're taking and begin studying far in advanced for that particular course. Like I said, you will not be able to rely on professors to help you, so the earlier you engage in self-study, the better off you will be.
