Not very welcoming when you check-in. You go to reception and are brusquely directed to the check-in counter behind reception. Check-in is done in a professional manner, not in the warm manner that the brochure in the room claims. In dinner buffet, only Indian fare is good. Chinese dishes were not good. In breakfast buffet, lemongrass chicken, fried rice and coffee from the machine is good. Room service is far superior to buffet, probably because it comes from mezza9 which is the higher end restaurant and buffet is served in the lower end straits kitchen. Mezza9 does not serve buffet and has a semi casual dress code disallowing flip flops etc. Straits kitchen allows casual wear. We ordered butter chicken and mutton korma for dinner through room service. They come with rice and were good. For breakfast, we ordered American breakfast through room service. Fried egg / egg sunny side up and Danish pastry were good in the American breakfast. Doormen are good for asking about cabs etc. Swimming pool is bigger than at other places and is enjoyable for kids. Depth is around 5 feet through out, so it's relatively safe for non swimmers as well. Overall, great place to stay, except for the lack of the promised warm reception and low value for money buffet. Sultan of Brunei reportedly stayed here during the recent ASEAN Summit.
