I went to check out this school After I experienced the pathetic education my son had received after a year in KPS.
I had 4 grown children that had been in KPS before the PROMISE and I felt confident with the in education they received. I had moved to South Haven My youngest came along and attended SH public thru 4th grade. I then moved back to Kalamazoo for his 5th gr. year in KPS.
I could not believe the change in the school system, the teachers, students and the cheating that went into play as a result of the Promise.
I decided to stop in to Oakland Academy and check it out. THE DOORS WERE OPEN IN EVERY CLASSROOM, the students ALL paying attention to the teacher! Quiet, controlled and calm. The (then) principal stopped what she was doing and offered to give me a tour. For 6th grade my son received an extraordinary education. I was VERY pleased with how much he advanced in his knowledge, learning skills and social responsibility. Best decision I ever made.
