Before moving your butt across country and starting AFA, I would highly recommend you talk to someone who has already done the program. First off, you are required to go to weekly meetings, usually three a week and around 6:00 in the evening. There is a lot of paper work, and the director is a moody, dramatic woman that likes to yell at her employees in front of an audience. The mother-daughter director/human services director add a uniquely strange effect. Can we say conflict of interest? While you might expect kind, nurturing people at such an establishment ... Don't! The place is overrun with gossip and negativity. There seems to be a basic lack of trust among the staff trickling down from the top. The best part of the program are the participants, and for some, they are enough to stay, but remember, it is a year of your life that will be lacking in well- being and health.
