Review of The Wit Hotel

Wanting to make my birthday celebration special, my husband called The Wit to get us a room for two nights, 6-7 March. Upon checking in, the valet quickly stacked our luggage and a bellman guided us to our room. We had requested a room on a higher floor with a good view of the city or the lake. We got a view of other nearby buildings and could see a small bit of Lake Michigan if one bent over far to the left.

That night about ten, I found our coffee/teapot leaked rather than brewed hot water. The next morning I found that the lighted makeup mirror did not light up. When we went out, we stopped at the desk and asked for these items to please be fixed. Again, my husband mentioned that it was my birthday that very day. We had a busy day, and I was looking forward to a soak in the bathtub with some scented bathsalts, only to find the tub would not plug sufficiently to fill a tub for soaking. While all of these are minor in and of themselves, when they pile up one after another, it does cause the smile to falter a bit.

Overall, the hotel is located close to the theatre district, shopping, and museums. There is in/out parking either as part of a package or for a daily fee. Chicago transit is also close by, but the city is very walkable. The room was large enough and did not allow most traffic and the nearby El to be heard. Housekeeping did a fine job in freshening the room. We found the hallway birdsongs to be quite interesting, especially early the first morning when my husband called from the restroom if I also heard the roosters crowing! The other staff were similar to the staff in any mid-priced hotel in the Midwest, though given the room's cost we did expect a bit more.
