I left my car in service driveway before opening time for its annual oil change and mileage-appropriate maintenance, under the impression it would be covered by my 100K mi warranty. I also needed new wipers, and asked them to remove a crushed aluminum can that got stuck behind front grill, so I expected to pay $75 or so total. Got a call from service advisor that my warranty expired (I guess 6 yr limit) so oil change and brake fluid flush would be $400 ish, wipers $100. Also, he informed me my car would not start. This was a stunning development bc I drove it there myself, had no issues whatsoever including any trouble starting or signs of low/bad battery. Nonetheless it was apparently the battery - that just happened to completely fail right in their service drive. $415 to replace and register . So now i m up to over $900 ($988 with taxes and fees). I was then told they wanted another $85 to remove the aluminum can. Really?! I understand there was some labor involved there but you have a customer who expected a less than $100 service now dropping almost $1000, and you can t just extend the courtesy of removing the can without charge? I am sure the service advisor had the latitude to do that but he didn t, even after I asked why such a charge. This is how you lose customers. With an expired warranty, why would I want to come back here to pay a premium for basic maintenance in the future? I don t and I won t.
