So I went to Sutter for dialysis as I have moved here from out of state. While I am waiting on my doctor to set up a dialysis clinic I'm directed to go to Sutter as needed for dialysis. While there awaiting dialysis the black security guard in the emergency room that has dread locks all piled up on his head threatened to have me arrested for "refusing to leave" because he just kind of assumed I must be homeless and was just hanging out. I'm a patient, mind you, had just been called to the back to have labs drawn and had come back to sit in the ER lobby. I explained I was a patient, he didn't want to listen and didn't want to check, so I said hey no problem, I can leave and risk my life at your command even though you're not medical staff and you're wrong about me not being a patient. The outcome of that is the typical California response when someone screws up - can't go into much detail as the result is still being adjudicated.

A different time I was admitted because Sutter decided they wanted to be the ones to set up my dialysis clinic, even though I already said no, my doctor is doing that. They insisted. I spent a grand total of over a month there. They still couldn't get the job done, even though most of that month was spent waiting on one single piece of paper. When I expressed a desire to leave AMA, they called the psych team on me. Psych cleared me and looked at the doctors like "You can't use psych to punish people who don't do as you dictate" and left. So since they couldn't punish me for desiring to leave AMA (but not doing so), they withheld all of my medications until I either complied or left. I left, and that outcome of that event is also being adjudicated still.

It's not all bad, though. They did save my life once. They fixed an arterial surgery that a doctor elsewhere botched. However, they once again didn't want to let me go home after an appropriate time frame so I again had to walk out AMA eventually.

They have a real problem knowing when to let people go home. Either they want you to go home under threat of arrest way, way too early (before you even get treated), or they never want to let you go home ever.

Horrible hospital full of abrasive, unprofessional, dictator like people.
