I stayed in Sun island for 4N in Nov,18. First of all, just to reinforce your idea of a Maldives trip if it's your first time - GO FOR IT! The natural beauty is terrific irrespective of which resort you choose. I can't compare sun island to other resorts in Maldives (because I didn't visit any other) but I am more than satisfisfied by the hospitality extended to us. The management is efficient, rooms are kept clean and tidy and the sports/excursion facilities available are sufficient to keep you occupied for days. Only improvements I believe could be made to the bicycles rented (which are quite old and rusted), Maaniya food and the Spa which are average. There are no good house reefs for snorkelling and you have to go on excursions to experience a good one. Half board is the best because you get to taste foods in other restaurants and even if you don't, a heavy breakfast and dinner will keep you running just fine. Plus you will save a lot of time otherwise spent on walking to restaurant, eating, etc. Water bungalows are splendid and pretty and should be tried for 2 nights atleast in my opinion. The dive centre guys could be a little more co-operative and vocal. To summarize, if you not too fussy and sensitive, and out to experience the natural beauty of Maldives on a budget, this resort is perfect for you.
