Brian Vavra Review of Sugar Mountain Resort

Beech is an outdoor super-spreader event. The resort was grossly oversold and seems to have given up on any enforcement of Covid mitigation. I went early in the season and there was decent mask enforcement. This time, there was almost none, including on the shuttles and indoor areas.
There also seemed to be almost no organization at any point, from parking to shuttle to lift lines. Complete free for all. We purchased tickets and lessons a couple weeks in advance and arrived to park and gear up about 45 minutes early. It took us 15 minutes to find a spot in overflow parking, another 30 for the shuttle to arrive, another 15 for the shuttle to wait in traffic for all the people who ignored the parking full signs and tried to park at the base of the mountain (employees here would have been helpful), and then 30 more for my wife to get her rental gear. Traxx drop off was easy and smooth.
It took 30 minutes plus to wait in the main lift lines, where masks were sparse. I get that skiing is outside, but with people packed that closely together, Beech needs to do more.
At the end of the day, we waited another 20 minutes for the shuttle in a loosely assembled crowd of people that then all surged forward to try to make it on the bus. In addition to lugging my gear, I had to make sure my kids weren t crushed.
The time on the slopes was great. Everything else was worst case, and you couldn t pay me to go back to Beech while Covid is an issue.
