The Empire Hotel is truly one of the hotels that Brunei can be proud of as it is the epitome of luxury. Upon arrival, the first thing that amazed me was the gigantic size of the lobby and it's luxurious designs of intricate carvings. The pillars were made from marble and truly emphasized the grandness of the lobby. WiFi was automatically connected but sadly had poor speed (1 MB for me), perhaps it was due to the amount of guests staying there. The staff are very welcoming, with their charming smiles.

Our room was located on the "Laguna/Lagoon" Block, just a few blocks away from the beach. I think each block in the empire has its own characteristics and that's what made it stand-out for me - for example the block I stayed at had a lake surrounding it and even fishes (koi) that you could feed. The swimming pool near the Lagoon Block was unfortunately under-repair during my stay so it was a bit demotivating though I could see that the pool is very deep and large. What I love about the room is that it has a balcony where we could sit and just watch the lake or random cars passing by. The two master beds were ample sized, enough for a family of four (or five). A selection of snacks and tea are also served for free and the storage space comes with a floor length mirror and a hidden space to change clothes. WiFi still became an issue though as the reception in our room was terrible.

The 'Buggy' ride was one of the few things that I heavily enjoyed, a phone to call for the buggy ride was provided on our block so it was a matter of calling for the ride to take us around the compound. It was refreshing to enjoy the rush of air as you were driven around the area.
