We rode the train the day after Thanksgiving and it was lovely. In winter the train only goes to Cascade, a small picnic grounds in the mountains with a large warm fire pit. You get a 40-min lunch stop there before heading home, and you can pack a lunch or buy their box lunch in advance.

We rode in the standard car, with 2 people per bench, and it was fairly comfortable, though it's a snug fit for 2 average adults.

There was also a open, standing-only observation car that anyone could visit, along with a concessions car that served everything from coco to cookies to beer.
