Was supposed to graduate and throw the mortar boar...

Was supposed to graduate and throw the mortar board off my head, but sadly, fate has different plans for us this year.

Our batch were denied the graduation ceremony after studying so hard for so long (i did 5 years), investing so much time, energy and money.

While I agree that it is not the university's fault that covid had to happen, I do believe we have a way of celebrating our achievement. I don't mind it being postponed but please do not cancel it totally. After long years of hard work, in between work and other commitments, i strongly believe us graduates deserve a Convocation ceremony. A ceremony to celebrate our achievement and for some, a milestone in our many years of living.

We just received the letter which says 'In January 2021, SUSS will make a decision on whether to proceed with the convocation....'.

My heart sank reading the letter cos after receiving the first email notification, we were all hoping that at the very least, it will be postponed to next year. But from the tone of the recent letter we received, it sounds like there might be a possibility that it may never going to happen. And that thought crashed all of our hopes and dream. Dream to graduate in a graduation gown, mortar board, going up the stage to receive the certificate and giving us the perfect end to our university life. Some of us worked doubly hard and some of us don't even get a chance to put on any graduation robe as they came from A Levels. We were all looking forward to a graduation ceremony as a celebration of our hardwork, witnessed by our loved ones. Something our families can be proud of. I urge the university to not cancel the ceremony and spare a thought for us.

Please don't fail us. :(

Thank you.

Regards,
Azlina Rahman
