Vickie Dieter Review of Mike Johnson's Hickory T

I took my Toyota to Mike Johnson's for a routine maintenance and inspection. I was told my car would not pass inspection due to a variety of major issues including a broken top motor mount and a long list of repairs totaling around $3,000. Fortunately, I realized that most of the things on their "diagnostic list" were not even considered for an annual state inspection. I went straight from Mike Johnson's to a mechanic a friend recommended and asked him to look at my car and tell me everything it needed to be in good working condition. Nothing on Mike Johnson's list was necessary for my car to pass inspection. The only things my car actually needed from the long list of "problems" Mike Johnson identified were spark plugs and rear brake pads. There was no broken top motor mount or broken transmission gasket or return hose, etc. Interestingly, I was given no documentation from Mike Johnson regarding my inspection being denied, and the long list of recommended repairs with the accompanying estimate were missing from the paperwork I received when I checked out. This is not the first time they're tried to hoodwink me into having unnecessary work done on my car. One time they told me during a routine maintenance that my transmission was leaking and the next time I took it in they said it was fine. I've had my Toyota ten years, and, believe me, I learned early on that I always had to take my car to another mechanic and see if it actually needed the work Mike Johnson recommended. I think I'm going to call Toyota and let them know how Mike Johnson does business. I think they deserve to know their reputation is being put in jeopardy. Certainly, trusting customers need to be alerted.
