Bryan Allen Review of The Breezes Resort & Spa
So I visited this resort in July of 2017. We will ...
So I visited this resort in July of 2017. We will not be going back for a multitude of reasons.
First let me.say that the beach was great and the water was the best I've seen but the actual resort was terrible.
I was told they serve "top shelf" liquors by the sales agent when I booked the trip. I specifically asked for Crown Royal and was told it was served. So we land at the airport and we have to take a taxi because there are no shuttles offered. They charged us $27 USD to get there. We arrive and they tell us our rooms aren't ready but we can use the resorts. I immediately go ask for a Crown and Coke and they don't have it. I get my wife a Daquiri and it's basically a slushee with run poured over it. Not mixed together. The drinks were disgusting. I talked to guest services and they said they hide the crown from the young crowd but if I go to the Piano Bar at night, I could get a drink. Awesome.
We get to our room and the rooms are badly in need of a renovation. Very old. Our view was decent but there's not balcony so I shouldn't have paid extra. We go down to the Piano Bar that night and they get the crown out but the room stinks so bad it was unbearable. It smelled like a basement of a dog food factory. Truly a disgusting smell. We left and went to the Baha Mar and had drinks and gambled.
The rest of the trip we really didn't drink and basically just went to the beach. They have a system were you get towels with a card and they ran out a few times. The beach could be nice but the main problem is the young crowd. This resort caters to the 18-21 year old group. They have a travel agency with offices in the resort that is specifically for 18-22 year old kids. They are loud and disrespectful. They act like everyone else did but it's annoying when you are trying to enjoy a carribean vacation. Also, the beach chairs are some of the most uncomfortable chairs ever made. I felt like I had ruptured vertebrae after an hour out there.
The food was not good. The only thing I truly enjoyed was the corn beef hash. Honestly. We tried the restaurants and I couldn't finish my meals. My wife said the food was average. Better than cruise food but still not good. It's unlimited but honestly, who cares if it's gross.
If you do want to visit, here are the things you need to bring....
Tumblers, sun screen, snorkles, beach towels, and water/water bottles. I was so thirsty and the tap water is disgusting. The bottle water is expensive in the gift shop and they don't offer filtered water. I'd stop at a store on the way from the airport and get a case of waters. The rooms don't have a fridge but I was so dehydrated one night, I choked down the sink water at like 3 AM. The only free filtered water is in the gym and it runs out.
The activities are not organized and I couldn't even figure out where they were. They have these sleezy people that walk the beach and try and sell you actual activities "snorkeling, jet ski, fish" and it's pretty expensive. They also tried to sell me some knockoff Cubans out of his shirt. Lame.
All in all, the staff is friendly which is the only reason I didn't give it one star. I wouldn't go back and honestly, probably wont go back to the island. To have a country that relies on tourism, they sure treated tourist like garbage. Constantly trying to rip you off.
After 4 nights at this resort, my flight home couldn't come quick enough. I wont be back.
