This Spring break my family of four stayed at the DoubleTree at Downtown Disney. Our flight was delayed so it's about 11:40 PM when we arrive and discover they have given away the room we had booked and paid for months ago. The staff at the front desk work the phones and computers while we wait in the lobby until about 12:15 when they tell us they found a room that is an upgrade, an executive suite.

The room is alright. The hotel is due for renovation, so it is not as nice as I was expecting. The wallpaper and decor are dated and drab. I had registered for a suite with two double beds and instead we got an "upgrade" to a suite with king bed and a queen sofa bed, not very comfy. Oh, but it does have a giant conference table with eight chairs in case we need to have a meeting with other hotel guest while we're here.

The house keeping staff was the highlight of the stay. They were friendly and courteous. The rest of the staff were adequate. I would not suggest planning to eat in the restaurant. The food is expensive (it was cheaper to eat in the theme parks) and the drinks in the bar were very expensive.

The next day they did find us a regular double room as I had originally booked. So okay, one night with the kids on a sofa bed, no biggie. A small complaint is that the ice machine is on every other floor. Since we were on the third floor, we had to go to the second floor for ice. I know it is a minor nuisance, but when you spend thousands of dollars on a vacation, have been walking around the park all day, and you're tired, little things like that matter.

Still despite the room mix up, and the exorbitant beverage and food cost, they might have eked out a good rating, had they not messed up the bill... twice! When I went to check out, there were duplicate restaurant charges and movie charges on the bill. The front desk staff person worked to fix the bill, but she had to go through every receipt for the days I was there to verify the charges. I mean she literally pulled out a manilla envelope stuffed with all the receipts, for all the guests, and went through them one by one. This is while my car to the airport is waiting on me. Finally, we got the bill settled, and I left. Then a few days later I noticed they had charged my American Express for the original amount of the bill, not the settled bill. So I called them today, and I couldn't get anyone other than voicemail. Therfore, I called Hilton and now I am waiting on a resolution.

Update: The bill was finally resolved adequately, it just took a while.
