We came here for a wedding in late June 2019 and as the wedding was held at the Sofitel, we were offered discounted accommodation. It was still approx $400AUD per night for a standard room in the renovated section. We had friends who paid a similar amount for the non-renovated section and just as a helpful tip- get the renovated room. The space is the same but the bathrooms and flooring have been updated.
We were greeted with mango juice shot and shown to our room behind the adults only beach club. We had read reviews of the beach club but at $170FJ per person additional to use the beach club, we thought it too much for what is worth.
Our room was clean, modern, our bed was an actual queen bed (not two single mattresses stuck together) and super comfy. Our minibar had only milk and water which is refreshed daily. There is coffee pods and tea available in your room too.
Breakfast was a good spread with hot food, come cuts, sweet pancakes and baked goods and cereals/oats/museli too. The milk for coffee is full fat and tasted odd to me so I drank pineapple juice the remainder of the time. There is indoor and outdoor seating.
The pool area is large and there are heaps of pool chairs available. To get a drink served you put a little green flag up your umbrella to signal to the waiter. Cocktails are $28FJ each and happy hour only brings the price down to $20FJ. There is a list of pool activities run most hours of the day including volleyball, Aqua aerobics, sarong tying sessions, traditional dance presentations and more.
We also utilised the So spa for a couple's massage at $320FJ for an hour. After the massage (which was really good!) We were served free champagne and could use the jacuzzi as part of our experience.
I used the gym as part of the stay which included free weights, two pulley machines and a range of cardio machines. It is well air-conditioned and there is water and towels available and the gym is open 24/7.
The wedding on the Saturday night unfortunately had a lot of rain. Initially the reception was to be in the restaurant which is currently undergoing renovations and so ceremony was outside on the beach with umbrellas. The reception was in one of the conference rooms/halls to the side of the main entrance. Canapes were excellent and drinks were served and refilled quickly. The dinner was a buffet with traditional Fijian food. Unfortunately there was no clear descriptions of some food and there were a few people with allergies (seafood, peanuts, beans) and cross contamination may have been to blame for once guest being unwell during the night.
The DJ played a range of requested songs and playlist by the bride and groom. It was a very lovely night.
On check out, we paid for all the drinks and massage that had been charged to our room and the whole process took less than 5min. There is also a check in station for Fiji airways available from 4am which checks your luggage in and prints your boarding passes to make your time at the airport hassle free.
Overall we give it 4 stars due to some aspects being overpriced and we expect once renovations are complete, that room prices will also go up.
