We stayed at Thainstone House as party of a friends birthday celebrations. The 6 course taster menu was really lovely, couldn't fault it.
The bedrooms, breakfast and staff were where the hotel fell short. The bedroom had no tea\coffee facilities or water available (apparently this was located in a chest of drawers but no information was available in our room other than a leaflet promoting their Christmas stays) Our door also didn't lock from the outside .....it was open when we arrived and we tried to lock it but even without insterting the key the door could be opened from the hotel corridor...definately was a faulty lock. To which we notified staff of straight away but nothing was done about it so we felt a bit insecure leaving our room unlocked for the duration of our stay but had no choice. My partner was able to return to the room and enter without the use of a key several times. The levels of staff were basic for how busy the hotel seemed to be, not one senior member of staff around other than whilst during our meal (this was perhaps how our room door was never fixed or looked into). If a manager had been on duty they surely would have been notified of the faulty lock by a member of staff.
The breakfast service was extremely slow, with all members of staff showing signs of stress at being unable to cope. However the breakfast was very good.
