I would give this ski area 5 stars if not for the older lifts. It is a quandary because one of the reasons the lift tickets are so reasonable is that the owners have elected NOT to heavily invest in modern lifts. The main reason I love this area is that it still has that LOCAL charm that the big mega resorts to the north lack. People are just more friendly and accommodating at China Peak. Management does not pretend to offer the glitz and high roller amenities of Tahoe or Mammoth but still offers reasonable food and libation opportunities. There are also plenty of challenging double diamonds and groomer runs to satisfy most skier palates. Not to mention a inexpensive beginner area perfect for newbies and family participation. Oh....then there are the views of Lake Huntington and the High Sierra.
The access offers a much more relaxing and scenic drive than the intensity of interstate 80 or 50. Can get crowded on the weekends but the lines move quickly...rarely over a 5 min wait.
Go for it!!
