The barracks Basel is a building in Basel built in 1863. Today it is a cultural center for the free theater, dance and performance scene as well as for concerts in the field of popular music. Own productions and guest performances take place in three event rooms for a total of 1,700 visitors, and the Basel barracks also supports young artists. The company is run by the Kulturwerkstatt Kaserne association and receives state subsidies. Connected are restaurants (restaurants, bars).
Major events such as the Basel Autumn Fair or the Basel Tattoo take place in the open space of the inner courtyard (formerly the parade ground). Artists' studios and the Klingental exhibition space are housed in the former monastery church, and a cultural center is being built in the head building (the actual former barracks building).
