Judy Coutinho Review of Plimoth Plantation

Highly recommend this historical re-enactment Museum. We visited off-season, in April. All re-enactment staff were extremely nice, very informative and stayed true to their character to give a true "feel" for the life of the first European colonists in New England. The buildings are a fascinating mix of primitive construction and 1600s European furniture. The "colonists" were planting parts of their kitchen gardens in April and invited visitors to join their work. We particularly enjoyed talking with the Native American staff (from local tribes) who demonstrated many parts of their life, much of which is practiced with knowledge and pride today. The Native American garden and the bark-covered winter lodge were extremely well-done. The Grandmother (a honoring title) shared stories about traditions and life as she had lived it -- a rare opprotunity. The Museum shops have goods that range from kitchy toys for kids to excellent period music on CDs to food items typical of the colony, and the Native American section has some exquisite hand-made traditional items.
