Reaver Enterprises Review of Chicago South Loop Hotel
Rating is actually 2.5.
Rating is actually 2.5.
An ok hotel if you want/need a place to stay and for $169/night for a single king-size bed, it was a good price at the time of this review. For the price, the hotel is decent - not horrible, but my experience was a little below the standards you would receive at the chain hotels (Holiday Inn, etc).
The 2.5 stars also accounts for the fact that the Chicago South Loop Hotel classifies itself as a 'boutique hotel' - which gave me a different mental picture than what the hotel actually is.
Not much to do around the hotel, and the surrounding area is so-so. Ok to walk around during the day but I would probably not want to walk around the surrounding hotel area at night.
It is a decent proximity to McCormick Place - so if you are attending a conference there and you are just looking for a place to stay at night, this may be a lower-price hotel option.
Hotel room is 3.5 stars - nice/decent room.
Highlights: Open room with good/adequate space. Bed was comfortable, as were the pillows. Bathtub was really nice - deep tub (no jets). Shower flow was also nice - good flow/pressure. Business desk in the room was nice and adequate. Small fridge in the room comes in handy. Closet space was adequate, as was the drawer space.
Low Points:
Both windows in the room did not close completely and the 'Chicago wind' passing by made an annoying train whistle noise. Tried to push the windows down more but they would not go down any further and kept "popping up". Neither window locked either. TV was way too small (maybe 32")? Coffee maker was a miniature and only made 8oz of hot water at a time - which is maybe fine for some but a con for me - especially in a hotel that classifies itself as a "boutique hotel". There was packaging plastic still partially left on one of the decorative mirrors and looked to have been like that for quite some time.
As for the rest of the hotel. There is a business center that was nice. The fitness center was adequate (barely). 4 machines and free-weights that went up to 45#. No pool (low-point).
There is also a place in the hotel that does breakfast/lunch - cafe-style, but if you plan on eating there during the rush-hour of breakfast or lunch, you may want to carry-out as there are only enough seats for about 10 comfortably, 15 max. The breakfast there was good.
(Additional Low-Points).
Room service did not come until almost 5pm. Had to call to make sure they were coming. After "cleaning" the room the ironing board was left out and the carpet was not vacuumed. The room also did not appear to be cleaned, just new towels, made the bed and folded the first toilet paper square. Dust was still seen and mirror still had a smudge on it.
Asked the hotel for a late checkout and they said NO...(?). Checkout is 11am and at 10:50am a maid knocked on the door and said I had to leave now...
Would I stay here again.....
If the price was right (under $170/night) and I just needed a place to sleep and I didnt want to go out to eat, or sight-see, or shop... I would.
If however I found another 3 star rated hotel that was comparable price, I would probably try that other hotel out.
