Review of Pizza Antica

It was a weekend night and we had a long pending dinner plan with friends. On the recommendation of my wife who spoke highly of Pizza Antica from a recent lunch, we decided to venture to the Santana Row pizzeria/restaurant. We went in without a reservation and were told of a 30 minute to 1 hr 30 minute wait. That window seemed wide and with two toddlers on a cold night, an impossibility. Thankfully, they welcomed us in 15 minutes. We thanked our stars profusely.

Once seated, the famished group was ready to order. We ordered an appetizer of antipasti of young vegetables with housemade mozzarella and foccacia crisps. I ordered a black currant soda. We didnt want to wait for too long. So we put in an order of butternut squash ravioli with brown butter, cranberries and pecans for one of the kids and the other one went with his favorite cheese pizza with olives. The men, lovers of carbs, ordered a large heirloom potato, caramelized onion and white truffle oil pizza. The ladies ordered a chopped salad and a handmade potato ricotta gnocchi with pesto and sundried tomato cream. The menu looked exotic and we went with exotic.

The food started arriving, after our appetites partially left us. The service was slow and that would be an understatement. The place was full but the wait was still too much. Plus trivial things like extra silverware or water took a while and an additional reminder to appear at out table. We were a grumpy group when the food arrived. Thankfully, the food was well worth the wait.

The kids plates arrived along with the appetizer. The homemade mozzarella was awesome. The cheese pizza was thin crust and tasty. The butternut squash ravioli was to die for. I mean, I like the one in Pasta Pomodoro. But this was head and shoulders above that one. The chopped salad was fantastic. The potato gnocchi felt lovely. And the potato pizza was great. In all, every one of the ordered dishes was fantastic. We were happily chomping away on our food before we knew it.

I still remember the dinner. That means something, dont you think.
