CONFUSED BILLING DEPT.

CONFUSED BILLING DEPT.

On the 20th of May, I got a bill in the mail from Meritas Health Neurology dated the 15th of May (5 days prior) . It was my co-pay amount for services at NKC Hospital in February. This was the first bill I'd ever received from them.

As I reached for my checkbook, I noticed another envelope from Meritas Health in the stack of mail. It was another bill from Meritas Health Neurology, for the same services on the same dates, but this bill was dated May 16th (*one day after the first bill*) and it had the words "PAST DUE NOTICE" in a huge bold font splashed across the entire width of the paper!

How can a bill be 'PAST DUE' only 1 day after the original bill is dated?

So, just to rub salt in the wound, Meritas Health Neurology calls me on the 23rd telling me I'm past due and asking when I intend to make a payment! That pushed me over the edge and I gave the lackey who called me a piece of my mind. Last time I checked, my credit score was in the mid-800's. In other words, I pay my bills, I pay them on time, and I don't appreciate a minimum-wage stooge in a confused and poorly managed billing department suggesting otherwise.

So be vigilant when dealing with these people. They have offices all over the place, a billing department on the other side of the state and, from my experience, it appears the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
