Be careful buying a used vehicle here.

Be careful buying a used vehicle here.

I recently contacted this dealer to view a used vehicle and am left wondering how safe the used vehicles are. I called to confirmed availability and set up an appointment to view it. I arranged to leave work and drive 1.5 hours to the dealer. I hit traffic so called to let them know I was running late and it was only then they notified me the car was no longer available. I guess they were OK with me taking time out of my day to drive to their dealership for nothing...? Common courtesy could be to alert the customer as soon as possible if the vehicle status has changed.

Most concerning is the reason why the car was unavailable; it was unable to pass a routine safety inspection and the issues were so severe they didn't feel comfortable selling it to the public. This begs the question: why would the dealer take this car in as trade with such severe damage?
That can't be good for business.

To his credit the manager did call me back and gave me a long-winded explanation of the buying/selling used car process. I still don't fully understand how a vehicle can be cleaned (waxed, wheels dressed, vacuumed, etc.), photos taken and posted for sale on their website, autotrader, etc. without first passing a safety & mechanical inspection.

Most dealers claim to perform a 150-point inspection on used vehicles to provide confidence in your purchase. Based on my experience it doesn't appear this dealer inspects their used vehicles to the same standard so I would caution others shopping used vehicles here.
