I had a phenomenal experience giving birth to my first child at Newton Wellesley in May 2020. Specifically, Susie Littlejohn (my Labor & Delivery nurse) and Sarah Kleinman (the CNM who delivered my son) were the two people who gave me the absolute best day of my life. I ll never forget how they handled my going from a 2 on a 10-point pain scale to a whopping 10 in virtually 60 minutes it s a blur because my eyes were closed and I was in labor land, but I remember both Susie and Sarah holding my hands, telling me we were going to get through the next contraction together, doing everything they could to keep me grounded during indescribable pain. They made me feel safer and more supported than I ever thought possible. I had planned an unmedicated birth but ended up more or less begging for the epidural not only did they not make me feel weak for making this decision, but they actually made me feel empowered. It was my choice, they said. Everything was my choice.
This didn t even feel like I was delivering in a hospital it felt like something else entirely. Thank you so much, Susie. Thank you, Sarah. I ll never be able to repay you. I was so scared to deliver a baby during COVID-19, so scared we were no longer able to bring our doula, but you gave me everything I needed and more. Thank you, thank you. I ll never forget you.
