When I met my husband over 50 years ago, one of the first places he took me was to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Being of the baptist faith I felt like I had gone to Heaven without dying. It was beautiful then and became more beautiful after we were married there in 1959. We moved to my husband's home state of NY one year later. After 22 years we moved back to Savannah. We were reaquainted with Fr. Herbert Wellmeier, the priest that married us in 1959, he had returned to the Cathedral for his second assignment as Rector.. Soon after returning to Savannah I started working as secretary and bookkeeper at the Cathedral. A few years later my husband studied to become a permanent deacon. He was ordained at the Cathedral by Bishop Raymond Lessard. Two of our four grandchildren were baptised there. In 2001 I retired from the Cathedral after 17 years, we moved to my hometown, Glennville, GA. We are very active at a very small parish, St. Jude, where my husband is permanent deacon. We love our small church but I still have a special feeling when I read or some one speaks of The Cathedral of St. John The Baptist. I guess it will always feel like home to us.
Deacon Lou & Mrs. Lou Andruzzi.
