I recently engaged in attempting to open a Vanguard account for retirement. To avoid the hassles of moving the money myself and properly selecting the correct funds I used their Planning Services. My experiences were not so pleasing. Keep in mind their planners are company paid, compensated and will serve the company first. The end result had I invested with them would have been a $23K capital gains tax. There was a certain amount of misguidance to get there driven by compensation from Vanguard to sell their products. You will be profiled by them to see how much you understand investing. In my case they did not approach this as "What Can We Do For Him" rather "What Can We Get Out of Him". The funds are great I would suggest seeking outside help in determine what funds are best for you and having the same person set up the account then turn it over to you.
