We went here for lunch on Father's day and we're very underwhelmed. The menu and flavor combos sound fantastic and had our hopes up. We decided to split the roasted chicken tartine and the carbonara. I'll start with the good. The tartine was great, although it's technically a panini, not a tartine. The chicken was moist, the fig aoili was delicious, and the flavors were perfectly combined and balanced. The frites which accompanied it, however, were barely warm and many were small and burnt, almost as if they were the end of the batch. Also, they were served with Heinz ketchup in a fancy little ramekin. If you're going to charge 15 bucks for a sandwich and frites, at least have a house ketchup or serve it with one of the aoilis that you already have on the menu. The carbonara was possibly the most disgusting I've ever had. As an Italian, a foodie, and someone who calls carbonara his favorite dish, this pasta was a pathetic attempt at the dish or even as a dish in general. The pasta is homemade, but overdone. The "sauce" tastes like semi cooked egg yolks... No flavors of cheese or any spices, just egg. Lots of egg. The guanciale was very fatty... It really needed to cook more to let the fat caramelize and develop the flavor more. Overall, I would have been happier with a disgusting, Alfredo-esque carbonara made with bacon... It probably would have been better. All in all, the beautiful location and ambiance are let down by food which is overpriced and mediocre considering it's quality.
