CulturaLink does not pay their independent contractors on time. As of today, June 30, 2021, CulturaLink owes me 6 paychecks-- 3 months worth of pay, meaning over $9000 for services rendered. I have been working as an independent contractor with them for the past 11 months and never once have they paid me on time for doing my job. When the company first started finding contractors in Washington State they offered 2hr minimum to lure interpreters so we would work with them instead of other companies. Then, one day, suddenly, they said the very next day they would cut our pay by half and pay us a 1hr minimum.
Every month they pay you one single paycheck at a random date and get behind on one more. This means we make less than the minimum wage in the state of Washington. Rent alone couldn't be covered with one paycheck in Seattle. Trying to get in touch with anyone regarding late payments is nearly impossible; e-mails and phone calls are never answered by management. Every so often we receive an email by the so-called president of the company apologizing for late payment, saying they are facing "unprecedented times" due to COVID-19, as if we didn't start contracting with them DURING the pandemic and staying busy with back-to-back appointments. Turnover amongst language coordinators is high.
This company has huge contracts here in WA state and so much potential, but they disrespect their interpreters, who are the ones making them money, by not paying them. I wonder if the Catholic hospitals they have these contracts with know they don't pay their interpreters; that would be very unchristianlike of them.
