I've known Sevruga for a long time (in fact, I worked there for three years at a stage) and I'm a little disappointed with the meal my friend and I had on Sunday.

Freddie was an incredible waiter, and the 'renovations' were both needed and look nice, but I strongly feel that Sevruga is starting to slip quality wise (I feel you guys are starting to 'cut corners' in all the wrong ways).

The fake, insipid, transparent Japanese mayo replacement that you are now using is pretty disgusting (it didn't even vaguely resemble the original but something else altogether), to both look at and eat, the wasabi tastes like it's one of those cheap out-of-the-tube variations and the soy sauce seemed watered down but also had a distinct vinegary taste to it - is it off? Are you watering it down with vinegar? Or is it some cheaper variety? Either way, it's pretty gross.

The sushi could have been nice without these, sadly, fundamental extras, but overall was pretty terrible and left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Literally. Sometimes cutting costs and corners can be very expensive - both my friend and I decided we won't be back. I'm sad to say bye to an old favourite (the same happened with Beluga), but there are loads of sushi places in Cape Town to choose from.
