Jason Edward Kaufman Review of Eros Restaurant

Okay atmosphere, but lousy food and a bit of a rip off. From my experience, this restaurant does not merit the 4/5 rating on this site. My wife and I split a salad and had fish brochettes and sea bass. Total without wine was more than $90. In an upscale restaurant that would have been appropriate, but this is just a notch above a diner. And the food was badly prepared and the portions small. The $15 salad consisted of one chopped tomato, a few slivers of romaine and pepper, some onion, 4 olives, and about 4 tablespoons of feta with a dash of oregano and olive oil. I could make it better at home for around $2.75. The $28 brochettes consisted of 2 small shrimp, 2 small squares of swordfish, and 2 medium scallops separated by postage-stamp squares of pepper and onion with tiny cherry tomatoes at the end and a little pilaf of rice. Not only was the portion tiny, but the whole thing was charred and rubbery, as if it had been pre-cooked and reheated. Had I cooked this at home I would not have apologized to my guests. My wife's $30 grilled sea bass was not ruined, but all in all the meal was most disappointing. Even a gratis dessert from the waiter -- either policy or an attempt at compensation for a bad deal -- did not improve our take on the place. Again, pleasant enough atmosphere, but mediocre food and a rip off.
