I visited the ER in December 2017. I was having difficulty walking and experiencing excruciating pain on the right side of my body (Only). I had severe sharp pain traveling from my lower back, to my right buttocks, into my groin traveling downwards throughout my whole right leg to my toes. It felt like a current of electricity was electrocuting my limbs. Till this day, it is the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life.
Yes, it was a good amount of time spent in the ER. I had to wait my turn to get my vitals. Go back to the wait area until I got a room. I had to wait some time to get charted by the nurse of my medical history and explain my reasons for my visit. Then wait my turn to speak with the doctors on shift to figure out what to do. I than had to wait for someone to take me down to get an X-ray done and do some blood work. Wait on the results and wait to speak with the doctor again to see what they recommend me to do. They gave me a referral to see a neurosurgeon and a few prescription for pain. I spent about 4 hours there. However, it was the best for hours I ever spent in an emergency room.
I got an appointment right away with neurosurgeon DR., Danny Liang and his Asst. Surgeon DR., Marla Muhu. They wrote me a prescription to get an MRI done and TWO DAYS later I picked up my imagining CD (From Advance Radiology) to take straight to Dr. Liang in person without an appointment scheduled so he could review the images.
I'll never forget his exact words to me. "I'm sorry to tell you this Ms. Taylor. I'm admitting you into the hospital for emergency spinal surgery first thing tomorrow morning."
They did an amazing job. I felt like my old self again. However, it was short lived. I develop a lot of scar tissue buildup around the area they performed the surgery which caused me to experience the exact same symptoms.
I will give the ER team credit where it's due. They explored all avenue's to get me the help I definitely needed and they were SUCCESSFUL! SO BIG UP'S TO THE UMBW ER TEAM!! KEEP DOING WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO HELP YOUR PATIENTS!
