My husband and I recently traveled to Cairo and stayed at the Ramses Hotel. We live in the United States and there are many travel warnings regarding going to Cairo. We contacted the hotel prior to booking to ask about transportation to and from the airport and how we can see the pryamids/Egyptian museum, etc. Samy quickly responded and set everything up for us. Essam met us at the airport and walked us through everything at the airport ( you have to get a visa when entering Cairo and it can be quite confusing when you land). He then walked us out to where we met a driver who took us to the hotel. The security is great at the hotel- they do a walk around with a dog of the car before they allow you enter. Once inside, you must put everything through a security check. The hotel staff is WONDERFUL. I work in the customer service industry and I can t say enough about how fabulous the staff is- everyone said hello and was eager to make sure you have everything you need. Samy booked a private tour for us to see the pyramids, Egyptian musuem, and some shops through Cairo- the tour guide s name also happened to be Samy. I ve been blessed with the opportunity to travel to different places around the world and I can say without reservation that the pyramids was one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had. Samy truly gave us an experience of a lifetime. Please note that a 5 star hotel in Egypt is slightly different than a 5 star hotel in the states. This hotel would probably rate more along the lines of a 3.5 star hotel; HOWEVER, the hotel is extremely, extremely clean just outdated. I would most definitely stay at this hotel again. I would also like to point out that at no time did I ever feel unsafe because the concierge is well connected. Samy, the tour guide, was able to create a seemless experience outside of the hotel and avoided any potential mishaps. Given our experience, I would never advise traveling to Egypt without the contacts from the hotel. To the entire staff at the Ramses Hotel- thank you, thank you, thank you! I can t begin to tell you how grateful I am to have experienced Cairo- shokran!!
