I am amending this review drastically & deleting old information, because of major improvements at the YWCA. There was a new executive director hired, in the end of 2018. She took some time to evaluate the situation before making major changes: Over half a dozen employees have been replaced with much better staff who really do care about how residents feel about all matters and who treat residents with respect. These changes included the director of the resident program, who was let go over a 'violation of privacy' matter. She had been here 18 years & was far from perfect, as the previous review I deleted had mentioned and residents feared things could only grow worse, when they heard she was fired & would be replaced, as their luck was not running high in this regard. They are all so very thankful for the new director's personnel changes, including the replacement of the resident director with the new one, who is also making major changes in the (now open) flow of & response to, all resident issues & communications. They also reduced the rent here to 30% of resident's income, down from 40. If you work & do not qualify for subsidy elsewhere, you still get a discounted rent here, as the ceiling for rent is $400 max, no matter what you make. The maintenance has always been superior as the gentleman who takes care of this building has exceptional tact & care in handling resident concerns, as he always had - the former negative review I did, did not mention him, due to its focus on various disappointing shortfalls on the part of multiple staff, which he was never part of. All those shortfalls have vanished & improvement is on the rise, in every area. It is such a great place to be now, beside the rare case of resident misbehavior. Keep in mind, they work with everyone here, some with greater issues than others, so cases do come up in which we have to put up with unpleasant situations & people, but each 'problem-child' who has arrived as a newbie, usually works out the kinks, in due time & the misbehavior eventually subsides completely. That is the only shortfall now. But thankfully, even those issues are rare, nowhere near the norm. Much thanks for both the Executive Director Wendy & the new Resident Director Diane. Exceptional improvements have saved the day. Its a great place to be. Remember, you only need to be in either counseling or getting any other kind of psychological treatment to live here. There are other particulars which you can call for further clarification. They will be happy to assist. This place rocks now. All the best to you.
