Sandman Hotel City Centre List of Complaints

Sandman Hotel City Centre List of Complaints
Jc Pollard
Our experience at the Sandman Hotel City Centre was nothing short of horrible. The way we, as paying customers, were treated was embarrassing. Sandman s mission statement is to we take care of the details to ensure your stay with us is enjoyable, comfortable, and affordable. Sandman City Centre was not enjoyable, not comfortable, and given the value not affordable. Below is a list of detailed complaints we received from members of our group. This list is not exhaustive bit encompasses some of the major problems.
Pigeon Problem
After checking in four members of our groups opened the door to their room to find two pigeons sitting on the bed. The room and bed was covered in feces. A truly disgusting scene. As the Vancouver department of public health says pigeons create unsanitary conditions and a potential health hazard. Nests, feathers and bird waste can cause human and bird diseases.
The members of our group reported the problem to the front desk. The most disappointing part of this experience was the way they were treated. The customer service was horrible and unapologetic. They were offered no compensation and were downgraded to a room three floors lower.
This incident was nothing short of absurd and was a horrible reflection on the hotel as a whole.
Scam Phone Calls
Dozens of our members were woken up at 6:00 AM by scamming phone calls. These callers were claiming to be the front desk of the hotel and claimed they needed updated credit

card information. Two of our members were fooled by these calls and were each charged $800 on their credit cards.
Though most of us were able to identify the fraudulent intent, we were still woken up at extremely early hours. The hotel had signs in the elevators informing people about these calls but that was not nearly adequate.
Faulty Elevators
Twice over the course of two days we had groups get stuck in the elevator. Each time
people were trapped for over 30 minutes in a hot, claustrophobic, uncomfortable setting. I was one of the people personally stuck in the elevator and I can honestly say the way the front desk attendants treated us after getting out of the elevator should be a fireable offense. Just like with the pigeon experience the hotel was not even remotely apologetic. The staff was incredibly rude, and cast blame on us. Not at all the treatment we deserved after such an unpleasant experience.
Horrible Service
A very prevalent issue was the service of the staff. I understand that college students
can be a bit loud and rowdy, but we were still paying customers of the Sandman hotel. The way we were treated collectively was not reflective of that. Multiple reports arose of members of our groups being denied extra towels. Employees said no when we requested more shampoo or conditioner. The overall tone and attitude we experienced was beyond disappointing.
As aforementioned this is not an exhaustive list of complaints. In summation this experience was awful. I now understand why Sandman Hotel City Centre only garnered a 2.5 star review on yelp. Clearly this is not an isolated incident and this hotel has a history of mistreating

guests. I can undoubtedly say I will never stay at another Sandman institution again, and I encourage others to follow my lead.
